Ascension is the means through which a normal resident of a world becomes a Void Dweller. There are several ways through which one can achieve such levels, but many are ‘challenging’ and take much time and power.
1.) Theft or Gift- Accumulating power from your resident world, eventually driving it to collapse. Once it does, you take the place and power of the universe, thus becoming able to travel the Void. This can be given by other Dwellers to create new ones.
2.) Deed- Most uncommon. This is the means through, once a hero dies, they are offered permanent residence in an Elysium, or, offered Void Dwelling capabilities. The second form is through which a villain is offered permanence in hell, or, Void Dwelling abilities in order to monitor and direct other villains.
3.) Replace- In which, after killing/trapping/etc, a person is offered their power by a higher Void Dweller. This is a form of punishment, because, the trapped person then has to live in that world.
4.) Create- Rarely offered, this form is when a person creates something so powerful/new/rare/etc, and as such, they accumulate power through it, eventually gaining enough to Void Dwell. This is only possible when the creation is permeating through the world and becomes basically essential to it.
5.) Born- Basically, a sentient concept. Born as a Void Dweller and will always BE a Void Dweller. These are very rare Void Dwellers and regarded as the most powerful or prominent.
6.) Understand- A being, through the means above, gains Understanding FIRST. Sometimes after doing such they may not Ascend, but many usually do.
Artifacts: Artifacts are a unique aspect to the Displaced and Renegade Multiverses. An artifact is usually one of four things.
The first type, Tokens, are actually created by Displaced as a means of meeting each other, however, since their creation, new methods of using them, such as Essence’s MusicNote phone and the Displaced Tome, which are compatible with each other, have arisen.
The second type, Utilities, are devices designed to give one momentary access to the Void to chose their destination, not very common but can be created by Essence and gifted to anyone.
The third and final type, Deus-X, does one of two things. These can grant Void Dweller status, if one is lucky, however, it will consume the universe to do so. Secondly, these can destroy any Displaced with ease, no matter their power level. Deus-X are meant to be used if one wishes to end their story.
The fourth type, Relics, are the remains of destroyed universes or objects that are able to sustain in the void. These objects can be destroyed and should they hold any other power, will grant it, but do not allow one to Ascend. Of the types, these are the most plentiful and vary heavily in what they are.
